Volcanoes National Park After Dark (Pele’s breath) 6 hours

Most visitors are able to explore the National Park by day, but how about experiencing its true character that comes alive at night? With an ever-increasing rise in popularity, this tour is a treasure.

Your personal Certified guide welcomes you to Hawaii’s Volcanoes National Park. Most people allow far too little time for their visit to this worthwhile natural attraction: a World Heritage Site. Passing the gates of the National Park we enter a protected native Hawaiian forest at a refreshingly brisk 4000 feet elevation.

There is so much to see with more than 150 miles of trails within the park itself. The famous road to the Kilauea Crater also takes us to the dramatic Steam Vents, followed by the most sought for encounter of the Volcano’s Goddess herself - Madam Pele: at the Halema’uma’u Crater.

Here you have the chance to visit the Dr. Jagger Museum to learn about the ever-changing volcanic history through their educational exhibits as well as witness the 24/7 fully functioning Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

Now, a drive down the Chain of Craters Road passing many calderas along the rift zone, hiking to the largest Hawaii Petroglyphs trail of Pu’u Loa.This 20 mile road to the ocean is thrilling with a hardened black lava landscape of A’a and Pahoehoe leading us to scenic Holei Sea Arch at the bottom. Depending on the weather and the time, we can experience rainbows, dolphins, whales, turtles, sea birds and beautiful sunsets.

It’s time for an awesome twilight hike into the Nahuku – Thurston Lava tube, bringing flashlights in tow. Our sense of hearing is heightened thanks to the dark where many sounds come awake at night.

We return to the main crater where an exceptional sight of Halema’uma’u beckons us nearer. Halemaʻumaʻu is considered to be the home of Madame Pele, goddess of fire and volcanoes. She invites you for her evening spectacle showcasing her red magma glowing and stirring through the crater and cracks. This exquisite show is a potent act of nature to be seen and even heard – with billowing fumes and the occasional roar of Madame Pele herself.

We take our last turn to the Volcano House Hotel - warming up by the historic fire-place will have a whole new meaning after just joining Madame Pele and her own fires. Here you will be able to get cozy.
